Interschool Design Competition

For the past two decades, the three Washington area chapters of the American Institute of Architects along with the National Building Museum have partnered to host the annual Interschool Design Competition. The competition, which is open to students enrolled in architectural programs from local universities, introduces the participants to the realities of working for an architectural firm. Eight teams, comprised of one student from each of the participating programs, encourage both creative thinking and interschool collaboration. After a team introduction and a visit to the real-world site where the competition’s program is set, students then have a single day to work together on their submission’s charrette process at the National Building Museum.

This year’s competition featured nine current University of Maryland (UMD) students one alum. Two UMD students, Cristhy Centeno Arias and Joshua Climenson, respectively featured on the first- and second-place teams. Current student Melonee Quintanilla contributed to the third-place team alongside UMD alum Inna Nazarenko (B.S. Architecture ’16). Other UMD participants included: Wendy Amaya MendezAlicia MoreiraLames Al-KebsiLauryn WilliamsAnastasiya Volkova and Kira Zelnosky.

Congratulations to all!
