Please join Professor Casey Dawkins's Housing Policy Course on Thursday, March 11th, from 5:30 to 6:30, to hear guest speaker Nick Finio talk about his work on the recently released Maryland Housing Needs Assessment, on Thursday, March 11, from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

Nick will review the state government's role in housing policy in the US, discuss housing policy in Maryland, and provide a review of the process and findings behind the recent state-funded report on Maryland's 2020-2030 housing needs. The Housing Needs Assessment was a team project, commissioned by the state legislature, that NCSG produced with Enterprise Community Partners. It assesses current conditions in the State's housing market and compares those against projected future needs, while also assessing the effectiveness of the state's current housing policies. It includes interactive data highlighting housing needs and a housing policy 'toolbox' meant to provide policymakers with a flexible range of options to address identified needs.

Nick is the Associate Director of the National Center for Smart Growth. He is also a PhD Candidate in Urban Planning and Regional Design and an alum of the MCP Program (2015). His work at NCSG is focused on housing, community development, and transportation. Much of his current work is dedicated to executing the $2 million dollar grant from FTA to MTA on TOD Planning in the Purple Line Corridor, which NCSG is administering. His dissertation is focused on the meaning, causes, and consequences of gentrification at the neighborhood level in the Purple Line Corridor and beyond.
