The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has awarded Dr. Willow Lung-Amam, Assistant Professor of Urban Studies and Planning, a 2016 Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship. Lung-Amam is one of approximately twenty scholars selected for this award after a rigorous and competitive national selection process. It is only the fourth time a faculty member from the field of urban planning has been selected.
The Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship seeks to foster the diversity of faculty in U.S. colleges and universities, maximize the educational benefits of diversity and increase the number of professors who employ diversity as an enrichment tool in and out of the classroom. Spanning a variety of fields, including physical sciences, humanities and social sciences, fellows must have demonstrated superior academic achievement and be committed teachers and mentors.
The fellowship will provide support for Lung-Amam’s current research on the impacts of suburban redevelopment on disadvantaged communities and the challenge of equitable development in the Washington, D.C. region. During the yearlong fellowship, she will be a visiting scholar at American University’s Metropolitan Policy Center.
