Associate Professor of Urban Studies and Planning Willow Lung-Amam has been appointed to the Social Science Advisory Board at the Poverty & Race Research Action Council. The organization was founded through an initiative of major civil rights, civil liberties and anti-poverty groups seeking to connect advocates with social scientists working at the intersection of race and poverty.
Lung-Amam is also a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, and a nonresident fellow at the Urban Institute’s Metropolitan Housing and Communities Policy Center. She was a 2019-20 residential fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center’s Urban Sustainability Laboratory.
Lung-Amam’s expertise in planning and policy issues, including suburban poverty, gentrification, immigration, neighborhood opportunity and racial segregation, has made her a sought-after source for national media outlets such as the New York Times, NPR and CityLab. She is currently working on her second book, tentatively titled, The Right to Suburbia: Redevelopment and Resistance on the Urban Edge.
