Assistant Professor Willow Lung-Amam, PhD (MCP ‘07) was recently named to the board of The National Housing Law Project (NHLP), an organization whose mission is to advance housing justice for poor people and communities through increasing tenants’ rights, housing opportunities for underserved communities and safe and affordable homes.
Founded in 1968 as part of the War on Poverty, NHLP works “at the crossroads of housing and community development advocacy, legal services for the poor and civil rights.” They do this work within the community, bringing a national grassroots perspective to providing tools for advocates helping to advance housing rights and housing security.
Lung-Amam’s work on how urban policies and plans effect social equality in neighborhoods undergoing rapid racial and economic change fits well with the initiatives that NHLP’s champions, which include saving affordable homes, immigrant rights and healthy housing, among others.
