Following up on EFC's 2022 work with Timberbrook Condominiums in Gaithersburg, MD to develop a Sustainability Action Plan, in 2023, EFC and Green Mechanics, BLLC worked with Timberbrook to develop a Stormwater Plan for the community. The purpose of the Stormwater Plan was to present the community with a prioritized list of stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) to help alleviate stormwater issues around the property, and to develop a concept plan for the highest prioritized project. EFC and Green Mechanics conducted a site visit where the project team walked the property with several members of the Timberbrook community to identify areas where stormwater management was a concern. Green Mechanics combined this information with additional data (topography, land use, etc.) to develop a list of potential project types and locations. Once this list was complete the project team met with the community to present the findings and explain the different project types and the benefits associated with them. This process included presenting photos and other representations of what each project type could look like and answering questions related to the maintenance of each project and other concerns (mosquitoes, longevity, etc.). Following the community meeting, EFC distributed a survey that was used to gain additional input from the residents about what type(s) of BMP(s) they would prefer to see on the property and their locations. The community's input was incorporated into the project prioritization matrix, which also included a suite of scientific criteria including, but not limited to, potential nutrient reductions, cost of implementation, ease of maintenance, etc. After the prioritization was completed, Green Mechanics developed a concept design for the project with the highest prioritization - in this case, a 400 square foot bioretention project. Timberbrook received a copy of the Stormwater Plan, the prioritization matrix, and the concept plan so that they can utilize them in the future when they decide to secure funding for project implementation.
