I look back on my time at Maryland, and specifically the hours spent in what is now the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, as an incredibly formative time. I grew so much, made friends I have to this day, and slept so, so little. I may have watched a study model of a Le Corbusier inspired Solar Living Pavilion burn late into the night, depending on whether the statute of limitations on such things runs out. But mostly I learned - exposed to new ideas and surrounded by the creativity and enthusiasm of my peers. Truly the foundation for my entire career was dug, formed, and poured in those four years of studio.
Perhaps, like me, you've wondered about how you can repay the school, continue the mentoring and training of the next generation of architects, planners, preservationists and real estate developers. How you can give back to the institution that prepared you for a life forming and improving the built environment. Warn others about what they are about getting themselves into. Whatever drives you, I implore you to share it with the next generation.
Our time is precious - but it is a gift that will change the lives of others.
The best way to recognize all that you have received is to share your time, expertise, and enthusiasm. Please make a difference and get involved with the Alumni Association and the MAPP+D Alumni Network Board. Our goal is to connect those who already have to those who will - including planning and attending events that build connections between current students, recent graduates, and proud UM Terps who have blazed a trail forward.
Different roles and positions are available, anything from a commitment of a couple of hours a month to more involved leadership positions with the opportunity to grow and shape the MAPP+D Alumni Network. Submit your nomination (self-nominations are welcome) to become a member of the MAPP+D Alumni Network Board and play a leadership role within our unique family of programs.
