The EFC partnered with the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy (ESLC) to support the Eastern Shore Climate Adaptation Partnership (ESCAP) in its efforts to address sea-level rise on Maryland's Eastern Shore. ESCAP is a regional workgroup comprised of local government staff, partners from the state of Maryland, academic institutions, and nonprofits seeking to help Maryland's Eastern Shore communities reduce climate risks, share information, and pursue adaptation strategies.
ESLC led a collaborative process that culminated in the report Mainstreaming Sea Level Rise Preparedness in Local Planning and Processes on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, which aims to help local governments plan for the impacts of sea-level rise expected in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. EFC produced a companion guidance document, Integrating Resilience into Local Capital Improvement Programs (see link below), which shares best practices for embedding climate preparedness into capital improvement planning processes in municipalities and counties. The document highlights examples of communities that have updated CIPs for sea-level rise resilience, and it recommends model language for including sea-level rise considerations in CIPs.
