Through funding from a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction (INSR) grant, the Elizabeth River Project conducted a study to identify ways to scale up the existing partnership for long-term sustainability, including sustainable regional leadership support and funding within the Elizabeth River watershed. The watershed includes the Cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach.
For this project, EFC engaged local decision makers and stakeholders in order to complete a stormwater financing feasibility study. The study identified benefits and barriers to regional implementation, potential funding streams for water quality and resilience projects, and potential structures for regional collaboration in order to sustainably support local stormwater and flood mitigation priorities.
